JoJo offers 1 to 1 courses at his shop in Birmingham City Centre.

There are 3 courses on offer at the moment.  A bespoke shirt making course is planned for later this year.

This course is for : Draping ,pattern cutting and sewing  classic Sheath dress. 

A total of nearly 17hours of tuition. 14 videos

SYLLABUS 

JoJo will take you through each segment. contents include :

  • Preparing your dummy to be draped
  • Sizing up your dummy to the next size or to your body measurements
  • Draping on a real figure
  •  How to drape a waist and hip block
  • How to sew various seam finishes without an over locker
  • Balance and Fitting issues
  • A unique way of gluing the waist block and hip  block together without a sewing machine
  • Dart manipulation – how to transfer darts into different positions
  • JoJo explains in micro details the how’s and why’s of draping and creating the foundation dress blocks that in the latter part of the course  will be developed into a classic sheath dress.

You will learn how to develop your hip block into a classic Sheath dress design. You will also learn how to design and develop new style lines directly on the draped block. As you progress through each chapter ,you will learn how to use the sewing machine and various couture and bespoke tailoring methods to help you achieve good skills in draping ,pattern cutting but also sewing skills whether by hand or sewing machine . In the second part of the course ,you will learn more techniques and methods to help you achieve the classical Sheath dress.

  • How to make the dress without an over locker with various seam finishes:
  • French seam ,flat felled seam and Hong Kong seam finishes
  • Sewing machine techniques
  • Hand stitching techniques and finishes
  • How to handle your fabrics
  • How to use your scissors correctly
  • How to correctly sew princess lined curves and acute curved lines
  • Using your iron to shrink out fullness
  • How to sew an unlined dress
  • How to sew a lined dress
  • How to insert an invisible zip in a professional way
  • How to cut and sew bias bindings
  • How to make facings
  • How to stabilize your neck and armholes from stretching
  • Pressing techniques
  • Sewing machine tensions
  • How to place your patterns onto fabric
  • Designing and creating new style lines on your dress pattern
  • How to mark and tailor tack your dress
  • Creating inlays (extra fabric needed for customers who gain weight)
  • JoJo explains in- depth on creating a sheath dress from cutting to sewing the completed dress with variations on creating a classic princess lined sheath dress.

Equipment and tools needed for the course:

This is a “goody bag” of free tools and equipment for each student to keep. This is the only course in the UK that gives all students equipment and tools free to keep. Most if not all  courses will give loan of equipment for class room use only…not on JoJo’s courses!! The students take home all of the mentioned equipment below.

The student will need :

  • Dress form /Dummy (loan) or a real figure
  • Sewing machine Overlocker (loan) (optional)
  • Sewing threads
  • Hand stitching needles
  • Pins
  • Fabric
  • Chalk
  • Tape measure
  • Pens, pencils and Sharpie
  • Rulers (various lengths up to a metre)
  • L square
  • Invisible zip
  • Scrap lining or lightweight fabric
  • Iron, masking tape
  • 8 or 10 inch scissors

This course is for a total of 21 hours over 7 weeks  ,3 hours per week.
£850 .

All tools, equipment ,fabrics and pattern paper provided free of charge for each student to keep .

This is the only course in uk that all tools , equipment and fabric is given to each student to keep.

A flexible payment plan is now available for all courses : £200 deposit. £100 per lesson.

3 months of free help and support post course help.

JoJo will help you personally for 3 months on any new projects you do following completion of your course.
